Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has ‘practically agreed’ a deal to join Barcelona on a four-year contract this summer.
That’s according to Sport, who say the Catalan giants have received a ‘verbal ok’ from the player and his entourage regarding a move to the Camp Nou.
As you’ll be aware by now, Christensen is out of contract in the summer, and there has been no indication he will be extending his stay with Chelsea beyond that point.
Several big sides in Europe are thought to be keen on his signature, with Barcelona at the front of the queue and linked for several months.
They’ve been working hard to convince Christensen to choose them above the competition, and it seems they are getting closer to achieving their aim.
Sport report a four-year contract is ‘practically agreed’, and while the deal is still in need of a ‘definitive signature’, the player and his entourage have given a verbal ok to the move.
This, though, is dependent on a ‘final meeting’ with Chelsea in which the Blues will presumably make one last effort to convince the defender to remain with them.
Barcelona are confident they won’t be able to, and their efforts, which have been going on for a year, have been successful.
They first contacted Christensen last summer to see if he would be interested in a move and have been in contact with the Dane’s agents since that point.
They know that the Chelsea man is ‘very keen’ on the move and there was even a meeting in January to discuss all the details of his contract. The defender promised to give an answer as quickly as possible at that point.
He’s now ‘made his mind up’ to move to Spain, but Chelsea are ‘putting pressure on him’ to change his plans and remain at Stamford Bridge.
