Former Juventus striker Luca Toni believes the club should be looking at Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus in their hunt for a new number nine.

The Serie A champions have been linked with several forwards over the last couple of months, with it becoming apparent they are keen to add in that position in the summer.

One of the names that has been suggested is Tottenham’s Harry Kane, who, it is rumoured, could leave Spurs this summer in a major overhaul.

Jesus is also on the list, with some insisting the Brazilian is be less than settled in Manchester having failed to replace Sergio Agüero as Manchester City’s first-choice striker.

He’s made clear on multiple occasions that he’s perfectly happy, but that has been largely ignored.

Toni, who managed 158 goals in 346 games in Serie A for various clubs, is a fan of both.

“Kane is a true, strong centre-forward, who fills the area like few others,” he told Tuttosport.

“Icardi grew up at PSG, but out of the area, he has to do better. Haaland has had a super impact; he has to be seen in three years.

“Werner is pushing Leipzig, but he still has to prove a lot. Gabriel Jesus is less killer, but opens up spaces and does assists.”

Whoever Juventus do target, he will have to be a perfect partner with Cristiano Ronaldo, who, naturally, is the main man at the club.

Juve have struggled in that regard since the Portuguese legend arrived at the club, with their current compliment not working as well as the likes Karim Benzema did for him at Real Madrid.

With that in mind, Toni believes it is the Manchester City man should be at the top of the list, as he is a better creator than Tottenham captain Kane.

“I say, Gabriel Jesus, he would be Cristiano Ronaldo’s ideal sidekick,” he added.

“CR7 isn’t a pure centre forward, but he’s the one who scores the most in the end and has to score the most goals. A killer like Kane is not necessarily a good match for him.

“Gabriel at City scores but he also creates a lot of goals, he’s only 22 years old, and I think he would be the perfect partner for the Portuguese.”
