Earlier today, we covered the first part of Matheus Pereira’s interview with Portuguese newspaper A Bola. Those quotes were mostly about how happy the midfielder is to have a successful first season at West Brom so far, and all of his first impressions about English football.
Pereira has been loaned by Sporting to the Baggies until the end of the season, with a clause saying the transfer would become a permanent move in case he had 30 appearances for the Championship side.
He completed it in the match against Nottingham Forest this month, so he can now speak as a West Brom player, which he seems to be very happy about.
“If we get a good look at things, I’m a Sporting player. There is this purchase option, in fact, that made me a West Bromwich player from then on, but since I arrived here I think, only and only, of this club,” Matheus Pereira told A Bola.
“Here they like me, they love me even, they treat me very well from the first day. I’m a Sporting player, I feel the club, but I’m focused on the goal ahead of me. This is what I have in my head. I’m here, I’m a player at this club, I’m happy. Peaceful, day by day, taking advantage of and enjoying the opportunities that I have every day, in training and games.”
Matheus Pereira has also spoken a little about his midfield partner Filip Krovinovic. The Croatian also arrived from Lisbon, loaned by Benfica, and became best friends with him this season.
“Krovi is like a brother to me. I had a very good feeling about him, on the first day. We knew we were going to get along very well. Today we are brothers, on and off the field. We are always together. They even joke about it.”
Finally asked if he’s been dreaming of the Premier League, Pereira claims he tries not to think about it.
“My mind is totally focused on helping the team to get there. I’m being honest. After that I go on vacation, rest a little, and only then think about the future. The first objective is to move up the division, and if possible with the title of champion. The rest comes later.”
