Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot is once again the subject of claims from the Catalan media on Tuesday, and is on the front page of Sport.
Barcelona are hoping their signings next summer can be mainly free or bargain deals, and the Portugal international has been targeted.
Sport claim a ‘lot of progress is being made’ when it comes to Barcelona signing Dalot and Athletic Club Bilbao’s Inigo Martinez. The club has been ‘moving for weeks’, already starting work and initiating contact ahead of next summer.
When it comes to Dalot, it’s pointed out, as is now routine, that his contract expires in 2023 but Manchester United have an option to extend that deal by a further year. Despite that, there appears some Catalan optimism that he’d still be available for a bargain fee.
There’s been no indication of what Barcelona believe such a fee would be, and that could be where they hit a big problem.
Dalot has been a regular for Erik ten Hag this summer and even if the manager would look to sign another option next year, there’s no reason why the clause wouldn’t be used and then it could be a case of hoping for an auction to get as much as possible for the Portuguese fullback.
