Monchi has got his work cut out at AS Roma, explain Il Messaggero on Saturday.
This week the club’s director of football held a meeting with James Pallotta in London to try and get some funds for transfers. It didn’t go too well, and Monchi was told that in order to bring in signings there has to be sales.
One of the major paths Roma are trying to go down is signing Matteo Darmian from Manchester United.
They want a right back and the Manchester United transfer is ‘first choice’ for Monchi and Roma. Darmian has been linked with many Serie A clubs since moving to Old Trafford, but the Roma option seems to really have something behind it.
Given that Darmian is a used member of Jose Mourinho’s squad, even if he’s not used so often, it doesn’t seem like Manchester United would bend over backwards to help, unless they bring someone in themselves.
Il Messaggero believe the situation could rumble on until the end of the window, which is now just over two weeks away.
Talks with Manchester United will be on the way for Roma to get their man, and Monchi will need all his skills.
