Club reveal new kit.
Club use current star player in images of new kit.
A fairly normal and expected practice, it couldn’t really be any other way.
But Spanish newspaper AS reckon Liverpool’s Thursday unveiling of their 2018/19 home shirt also contains a transfer ‘message’ for Real Madrid.
Yep, AS reckon that Liverpool featuring Mohamed Salah in their promotional material is a message to Madrid and any other clubs interested in the player.
It’s explained that Manchester United did similar by using David De Gea to promote their new goalkeeper shirt last summer: ‘In May of last year, with De Gea again being courted by Real Madrid, Manchester United chose him as an image to promote the new shirts for 2017-18 . It was a clear message to the whites about their intentions not to sell to Spaniard.’
They were hardly going to wheel out Sergio Romero, were they.
AS continue: ‘Well, this Thursday it was Liverpool that seems to have sent a message. Specifically to the Madridistas, who have underlined in red the name of Mohamed Salah for next season. The club of Anfield has announced the new shirts for the next season and, both in the promotional video, posted on their social networks and in the distributed images, the Egyptian striker is one of the protagonists.’
Stop the press. Liverpool have included Salah in their video, and Twitter, and the promotional images.
That’ll show Real Madrid.
AS haven’t even been pushing Salah stories, neither have Marca, it’s been almost exclusively limited to the likes of Don Balon.
