A lot has been said about Liverpool’s decision to sign Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke following the Potters’ relegation, especially since the Switzerland international has barely played.
In one of his two starts, against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, the forward appeared to find himself being shouted at by Jürgen Klopp, which the manager cleared up a bit later, explaining it was all about a free-kick.
Featuring for just 96 minutes in the league so far, the 27-year-old isn’t playing anywhere near as much as he was at Stoke, but that doesn’t bother him.
In an interview with Aargauer Zeitung, Shaqiri was asked if Klopp was doing anything in particular to keep him happy.
He answered: “You don’t have to keep me happy! The process has worked well for me so far. Sure, every professional wants to play. I do too, but there are still a lot of games to come. On top of that, you just need to look and acknowledge what has been done at Liverpool recently! A lot of people did a good job!
“That’s why everything hasn’t been turned upside down overnight. What is happening is exactly what I expected. I decided to move to Liverpool fully aware that I would have a harder time in a club of this standing than, for example, other clubs that tried to help me.”
Seemingly up for the challenge, Shaqiri says the change from Stoke to Liverpool was ‘perfect’ for him, since he ‘always wants to improve’ and ‘win titles”.
As for the criticism he receives from pundits, ‘it goes in one ear and out the other’, explaining it tends to be those who are jealous that end up criticising.
