Three weeks ago, Portuguese newspaper A Bola came up with a story claiming Liverpool were interested in Nuno Mendes from Sporting.
Even though things have gone silent for a while, the very same outlet comes up with bad and good news about this chase today.
The bad news is that the fullback has apparently agreed a new deal with the Lisbon club. He’s about to sign a five-year extension this week.
But what encourages this chase continuing is that Liverpool could still go for his signing, despite this new agreement.
A Bola writes that the 17-year-old is ‘well referred’ by the Reds, who could still try to get him in the summer transfer window.
But the new deal would obviously be a problem, since Nuno is now protected by a release clause of €45m.
When reporting Liverpool’s interest last month, A Bola said the Reds would have two options to sign him. One was to get Mendes for €15m, leaving a percentage of a future sale to Sporting. The other was to sign him for €20m, and that’s all the Lisbon side would get.
However, these numbers should have a little increaseme now.
