Matheus Nunes’ goal against Rio Ave at the weekend made many people excited, especially supporters from clubs recently linked to him.
Liverpool are one of the sides who were said to be interested in the Sporting midfielder. The first reports about the chase were made in July, and then this month, following Thiago Alcântara’s injury, it was said the Reds were preparing a bid for his signing.
It turns out that newspaper A Bola today features a story about Nunes’ goal and the English clubs he’s been linked to. And they have something to say about Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The outlet writes that Liverpool made an approach to know the conditions to take the midfielder away from Sporting this summer. It’s said that contact was made even before Thiago Alcântara’s injury.
However, A Bola reports the Reds have already quit the race, choosing not to even make an offer. The report doesn’t bring a reason for that, although the obvious answer here may be the price demanded by the Lions.
The report says Sporting currently request €50m for the player, who’s been turning down some offers due to his wish of playing in the Champions League and fighting for titles. That’s something Liverpool, unlike others, could certainly offer him.
