Mikkel Damsgaard’s fine displays for Denmark at Euro 2020 saw him linked with a move away from Sampdoria, with Tottenham Hotspur repeatedly named as a suitor.
Liverpool have become the latest English club to monitor the midfielder’s situation, if reports coming out of Italy are to be believed.
The 21-year-old played the full 90 minutes in his side’s 1-0 defeat to AC Milan and Reds officials were in attendance at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Monday.
That’s according to Il Secolo XIX, relayed by Sampnews24.com, and they add Liverpool ‘like’ the Dane, who operated on the left wing against Milan.
His current deal will run down in 2024, but that’s not stopped the Serie A side from being worried as they will have to ‘defend themselves from the attacks of numerous foreign clubs’ such as Liverpool and Tottenham.
It’s claimed Liverpool, who have been at the window for a long time, are waiting for their rivals like Spurs to make a move, ‘before attempting the decisive assault on the player’.
The two Premier League sides have a week left in the window if they want to get Damsgaard away from Sampdoria in the current market.
