Manchester City suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Lyon at the Etihad in the first Champions League group stage fixture.
Nabil Fekir had a hand in both the goals as he assisted Maxwel Cornet’s opener in the 26th minute and got his name on the scoresheet, two minutes before the break.
His overall performance during the Ligue 1 outfit’s trip to England has seen him receive praise from today’s edition of L’Equipe. The French newspaper also suggest that his display on Wednesday showed that Liverpool were wrong to turn down an opportunity to sign him in the summer.
The Reds had agreed a fee with Lyon and then conducted the player’s medical in June, which is when they felt he has an issue with his knee and they tried to renegotiate the price tag.
Unhappy with the Merseyside club’s tactics, Fekir’s employer pulled the plug and the deal collapsed. He has showed Jurgen Klopp’s side that his knee is ‘holding well’ by giving a stellar performance against Pep Guardiola’s side.
L’Equipe claims it is better to ask questions to Liverpool about their decision to not sign him rather than them blaming the player’s knee for their failure to bring him to Anfield.
