It’s no secret Flamengo has one of the best squads in South America, with the club becoming full of stars in the past few years. That also means homegrown players find it difficult to impress and get a place in the team.
There’s been, however, an exception recently. That’s João Gomes, a 21-year-old midfielder whose performances made him a regular starter and even recently linked him to a Premier League move.
And it turns out that the youngster is interested in playing for Liverpool, according to his own words.
This week, João Gomes took part in a live-streaming on Instagram, speaking to fans. And one of the questions was regarding his wish of moving to the Premier League, with a specific question about the Reds.
“Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play,” said João Gomes (via ESPN Brasil).
“Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”
It was recently reported in Brazil that Manchester United were interested in the player. Stories claimed the Red Devils wanted to pay over £32m for the signing, with the club sending scouts to watch him in person.
Given how highly he’s rated it would take a lot of money to take João Gomes from Flamengo, especially because even though other stars such as Arturo Vidal, Everton Cebolinha and Oscar are all arriving at the team, the club don’t have a defensive midfielder like him. So if Liverpool ever get interested, they better be aware of that.
