Achieving very little with Southampton regarding Virgil Van Dijk other than annoying them by talking to him without their permission, Liverpool are still looking for a centre-back this transfer window.

Jürgen Klopp’s reluctance to put any faith in Mamadou Sakho, even after a very good spell with Crystal Palace, only intensifies that need, but no other player appears to be seriously linked.

Gazzetta dello Sport, however, do believe the Reds are targeting a centre-back, although he certainly isn’t first-team ready yet.

The player in question is Inter’s 17-year-old Zinho Vanheusden, who was brought on preseason tour by Luciano Spalletti, where he made two appearances against Wattens and Nürnberg.

The Italian newspaper say the idea of making a move for the young defender is ‘growing’ within Liverpool, and, with Klopp’s philosophy of targeting young talent, the club are more and more intent on focusing on the Belgian U19 international.

With a contract until 2019 at Inter, Vanheusden could be difficult to get, especially since Spalletti seems to rate him highly enough to let him train with the first-team this summer, and we’ll have to see how this one progresses.
