Even though Arsenal are often considered by Calcio Mercato to be in the lead to sign Piotr Zielinski from Napoli, Premier League rivals Liverpool also get a mention in a story from the outlet today.
In an article from Calcio Mercato about the player’s negotiation to sign an extension at the Serie A side, the Reds are considered to be one of the threats to take him from the club.
Calcio Mercato reports that Jurgen Klopp’s side had already tried to sign him in the summer of 2016, but Maurizio Sarri, who had worked with him at Empoli, ended up taking him to Napoli.
However, the interest isn’t gone, as the Anfield Road side are still said to be one of the options that Zielinski has to join in the Premier League. Liverpool are ‘also in there’, according to the report.
Zielinski has a contract with Napoli running until 2021, and is negotiating to be committed until 2023. The club are now trying to extinguish his release clause or double it from €65m to €130m, even though his agents don’t like the idea much.
So if Liverpool want to land him for a good price, they better move before this new deal is signed and quotes hit €100m+.
