On May 10th, Mundo Deportivo had a front page report about Liverpool star Sadio Mané emerging as a target for Barcelona.
It was explained the forward is ‘seduced’ by the Catalan club and would be ‘delighted’ to play for them next season.
The 30-year-old has continued to impress for Liverpool this season, managing 22 goals and four assists in all competitions. His current deal with them expires in 2023.
Catalunya Ràdio claim the Blaugrana ‘asked about’ the Senegal international in February, when their chiefs, Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff, held discussions with his camp. They ‘wanted to know first-hand’ about the player’s chances of arriving at the Camp Nou in the future.
It’s claimed the officials were also ‘interested in the possibility’ of the former Southampton man staying at Liverpool for one more season and joining them for free in 2023.
The report further provides an update on the attacker’s position. Although he has over 12 months left on his contract, a ‘change of heart is really being considered’ for the summer.
Jürgen Klopp’s side take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final later this month, and it’s stated he wants to wait until this tie is over, to ‘start thinking about his future’.
Should Liverpool win in Paris, then Mané could see himself staying at Anfield for one more season. If not, ‘exit options would increase’.
Apart from Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in the player.
