When you sign for a fee of around £30m, expectations will always be high, but no one thought Sadio Mané would adapt to Jürgen Klopp’s style of play as quickly as he has done.
Now a guaranteed starter under the German, the Senegal international has notched six goals and four assists in 11 appearances, including two against Watford in the 6-1 rout last weekend.
The reason? Being in the right environment.
That is, in essence, what Canal+ Sports pundit Geoffrey Garétier told Stades in Senegal, relayed by Senego.
He said: “Sadio Mané arrived in a particular atmosphere at Melwood, and, actually, I don’t think he’s ever been this performant at this stage of the season. I think there’s something happening in his career. He’s at the right club at the right time with a charming public.
“Therefore, the spotlights are on him. We’re realising that he’s a talented player, efficient, quick and someone who takes risks. He’s a player I like a lot.”
There is no denying that Anfield’s fans have taken a shine to the Senegal international, a love story starting almost immediately with his performance in the 4-3 win over Arsenal for Liverpool’s season opener.
Since then, Liverpool have lost only once, and are now top of the Premier League, one point ahead of Antonio Conte’s Chelsea.
