Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero isn’t very happy with the decision that harmed Argentina’s chances to get a World Cup spot.

After using an ineligible player, Bolivia were punished by Conmebol, who cancelled their win against Peru and draw with Chile, giving a win to these opponents.

Chile were one point behind Argentina before the fine, and now despite having the same number of points, Alexis Sanchez’s side are in front because of the goal difference.

So Argentina, with Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo, are now in sixth place, only the four best teams get a straight World Cup spot and the fifth goes to a playoff stage.

Speaking to TyC Sports today (via El Periscopio), Romero said: “It took me by surprise. When the sanction to Bolivia came out I said ‘hey, how the system changes’. These things were not seen before. ”

Argentina are facing Brazil tonight and then Colombia on Tuesday. Brazil are currently in second place and Colombia in fourth, so Romero’s side won’t have it easy for these games.

But there are still eight fixtures to go, so Argentina have plenty of time to recover.
