As you can see in the attachment at the end of this story, Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã today had a headline saying ‘Manchester United want Luis Diaz’.

Their piece, however, was mostly based in a recent report from Spanish outlet Fichajes which said the Red Devils have now joined the race for the Porto star.

And it turns out that when speaking of the competition for the winger, Correio da Manhã points out that Liverpool are actually ‘those who have shown the most desire to count on the player’.

Jurgen Klopp is said to be worried about not having Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah by the start of the year during the Africa Cup of Nations, meaning a January transfer is the target. Moreover, Diaz would also be a long-term solution.

The newspaper writes that the Colombian’s performances in the Champions League have been showing that ‘he’s ready for new flights’.

Diaz is protected by a €80m release clause, but Porto’s early elimination in the Champions League is something that could force them to accept a little less.

So even though Manchester United may now be interested in signing the South American star, it sounds like Liverpool are still the best positioned side in this battle.
