Schalke’s Ozan Kabak has been linked with Liverpool after Virgil van Dijk picked up a serious injury in October.
The need to sign a new centre-back in January increased after Joe Gomez suffered an injury setback last month, which could rule him out for most of this season.
On November 11th, Calciomercato explained the Merseyside club are ‘seriously thinking’ about Kabak, who is also attracting interest from AC Milan.
Another report from Calciomercato now claims the 20-year-old is the favourite target for the Serie A side to bolster their defence in the winter market.
It’s claimed Milan director of football Frederic Massara has already started contacts with the Turkey international’s agent with a view to signing the centre-back next month.
The Bundesliga side are struggling financially and their need to raise funds has seen Schalke lower the player’s asking price to €20m. The Italian side, however, wouldn’t want to go beyond €15m and they could be open to including bonuses.
Milan’s contacts for signing the player are ‘alive and frequent’, but they must be wary of Jürgen Klopp’s side.
According to the report, Liverpool have shown a ‘certain type of interest’ in Kabak, but a concrete offer is still lacking. If the Reds convert their interest into a proposal in January, then Milan may face a tough battle to complete his signing.
