There was a lot of expectation for Manchester City to challenge Liverpool for the title this season and for these two clubs to occupy the top two spots in the table for most of this campaign.

That hasn’t happened so far as Tottenham Hotspur are currently leading the table with 21 points after 10 games, level on points with second place Liverpool.

It’s been just over a year since José Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino at the north London club and things are looking positive for Spurs this season.

The same cannot be said about the Portuguese tactician’s former club, Real Madrid, who are currently fourth in the league table and seven points behind leaders Real Sociedad.

Los Blancos suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday and it was their third loss in the last five matches.

Real Madrid’s latest defeat in the Champions League has left them third in the group table and they risk falling out of the competition.

Zinedine Zidane insisted yesterday he will not resign as the La Liga winners’ manager, but recent reports have already started linking Pochettino.

According to Spanish journalist Juanma Rodríguez, Mourinho would be ‘ideal’ for Real Madrid. He said this during El Chiringuito TV’s Instagram live session today.

Rodríguez is aware it’s ‘impossible’ to get Mourinho away from Tottenham because, according to him, the former Chelsea manager will make Spurs the Premier League champions.

Mourinho would be the journalist’s first choice to replace Zidane, followed by Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp and then Pochettino.

There’s no imminent threat to Zidane’s job at Real Madrid, but that could change if the Spanish giants drop down to the Europa League.
