Liverpool’s interest in Rodrygo is something which has been reported on and off, since the player was still taking his first steps at Santos.

The Real Madrid star is now about to play another Champions League final, and all of a sudden, his future became a story in the Spanish media.

The reason for that is an interview he’s given to DAZN. As relayed by Mundo Deportivo, Rodrygo didn’t want to guarantee he’s staying at the Santiago Bernabéu for much longer.

“Anything can happen. I have a contract here, but I don’t know,” said Rodrygo.

Then he backtracked a little: “No, no. I’ve always said I want to be at this club, but let’s see.”

The quotes come from a teaser published on DAZN’s Twitter account, and may not fully reflect the tone used by the player in the interview. Still, that sounded like Rodrygo isn’t certain about staying at Real Madrid for the next season, and many fans started wondering why those lines were said just before the Champions League final.

As a Catalan outlet, Mundo Deportivo obviously made a big thing out of it. Their story claims Rodrygo won’t be short of offers in the summer, as ‘half of the Premier League’ want him, with Liverpool ‘at the head’.

Even though his transfer to Anfield never sounded very likely, that’s a rumour that often shows up. Earlier this month, we saw claims in Spain saying that the Anfield side are bidding €120m to take him this summer. Real Madrid, however, reportedly rejected that attempt.

There are some doubts regarding Rodrygo’s stay at Santiago Bernabéu because of Kylian Mbappé’s arrival, and we shall wait for the full interview to see if that uncertainty is really what he meant.
