Liverpool’s interest in Houssem Aouar isn’t anything new, and it isn’t going to go away anytime soon, either.
Starting around the time he made his breakthrough at Lyon in 2017, the Reds’ curiosity in what the French midfielder has to offer led them to approach him, prior to his first professional contract signing with the Ligue 1 club, to no avail.
Since then, rumours have popped up here and there, but Liverpool turned their attention to his teammate, Nabil Fékir, once again to no avail.
Far from discouraged from their two failed attempts for Lyon players, the Reds are said to be returning to the fore for Aouar, according to Le10 Sport, ‘pushing hard’ to get a transfer done.
Unfortunately for Jürgen Klopp, Lyon, who are preparing to lose Tanguy Ndombele (and possibly Fekir if he doesn’t renew his contract), have ‘completely shut the door’ for the 20-year-old’s exit.
With a policy of selling just one or two key elements a year, it’s more likely to see Lyon being open to a sale in 2020.
