The end of Georginio Wijnaldum’s contract with Liverpool in the summer has been the reason for many transfer rumours, both regarding his next destination and about the targets the Reds have to replace him.
The news coming from Germany today now says the 30-year-old was offered to Bayern Munich, although that move is actually unlikely to happen.
AZ reports that the Bundesliga giants ‘appreciate’ the player, but aren’t interested in the signing due to his big wages and advanced age. So they’re going for other midfield targets instead.
The outlet claims Wijnaldum is wanted by ‘several top clubs in Europe’, so even though the Bavarian side don’t seem keen on the signing, the race to land him continues.
Wijnaldum has 46 appearances for Liverpool this season and even captained Jurgen Klopp’s side in a few recent matches. AZ states there’s been no agreement on an extension with the club so far, with no details if the negotiations for a new deal are on or not.
