When Liverpool’s Fabinho was called up to the Brazilian national team earlier this month, we had a story saying it was surprising to see manager Tite wanting him for the right-back position.
It’s been quite a while since the 24-year-old moved to midfield, and as he hadn’t been called up for the World Cup even when the squad had problems at right-back, no one expected him to be used that way now.
But he was, and as we’ve pointed out at the time, maybe it would be a good sign for Jurgen Klopp, who would be able to see if it’s worth testing Fabinho on the right side as well.
Now after Brazil’s two friendlies, website Globo Esporte comes up with a summary of how the new players did. And Fabinho was much praised.
Fabinho played the full 90 minutes against the United States, and didn’t feature against El Salvador. Still, Globo Esporte writes that the player was complimented by Tite.
He’s shown ‘tranquility’ on the right side and won an important penalty. So that was a positive test for him.
Since Fabinho still hasn’t made an official appearance for Liverpool since signing for the club this summer, at least he can offer Jurgen Klopp a new option if needed.
