Liverpool are unlikely to make a move for midfielder Florian Neuhaus this summer, despite Jurgen Klopp being a ‘big fan’ of the player.
That’s according to Sport 1 journalist Florian Plettenburg, who says it is likely the midfielder will stay with Borussia Monchengladbach this year.
It was believed Liverpool would be on the hunt for a new central midfielder this summer, having lost Georginio Wijnaldum to Paris Saint Germain.
One name that had been mentioned as a possible target was Neuhaus, who the Reds have had a long-standing interest in because of Klopp.
Indeed, several reports in Germany indicated that his club were expecting a bid from Liverpool to arrive at some point, particularly after Wijnaldum’s departure.
It seems that won’t be happening, though, with Plettenburg reporting that there is no place in Liverpool’s squad for Neuhaus at the minute.
He says that Klopp has recently ‘reaffirmed’ his interest in him, and Neuhaus has been made aware of it, but a lack of space means no move is likely.
Instead, the ‘cards could be reshuffled in 2022’, meaning we can probably put this transfer rumour to one side for this year at least.
