Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has come in for criticism in the Dutch media following his performance against Belgium on Wednesday night. The Dutchman joined Liverpool in the summer form Newcastle United, and settled in straight away, but he’s been unable to reproduce this form for his country.

Voetbal Primeur have reported on the Netherlands 1-1 draw with Belgium this week, and have given the Dutch players ratings. Wijnaldum was given a rating of 5.5 of 10 for his contribution due to not being able to influence the game like he does with Liverpool.

They say his performances under Jurgen Klopp are in total contrast to those under Netherlands coach Danny Blind, although it was highlighted he’s playing in a slightly different position for the Oranje.

“The difference between the Oranje Wijnaldum and the Wijnaldum for Liverpool is striking. He is not able to make a difference for his country, although he was played in an unnatural position,” said Voetbal Primeur.

Dutch football is at low at the moment after Blind’s side failed to make this summer’s Euros in France. Many of their star players in the past ten years are now nearing the end of their careers, which has put extra pressure on the likes of Wijnaldum to produce for their country.
