As Liverpool and Manchester United prepare to face each other in an FA Cup quarter-final, it seems they may also dispute some signings in the near future.

That’s because of a report from Portugal, which reveals that the Anfield and the Old Trafford sides shared the same scouting mission last weekend.

Newspaper O Jogo reports that Liverpool and Manchester United both sent emissaries for the match between Porto and Benfica on Sunday.

The outlet points out that the English clubs had representatives there to ‘take notes about some players’ who were on the pitch.

Well, with Porto thrashing Benfica 5-0, it seems clear that those scouts certainly had much more positive reports from the Dragons than from the Eagles. Galeno, Wendell, Nico Gonzalez, Alan Varela and Francisco Conceição all had great performances for the home side.

The trip could even turn into a bucket of cold water regarding some targets, because last week, the Portuguese media had already reported that Liverpool and Manchester United were scouting Benfica, at the game against Sporting. Now with such a bad display, some names may end up being scratched from the list.

With the summer window getting closer, we should soon see whether the English rivals will compete for some of those players.
