As they seem to do a couple of times a week at the moment, on Friday L’Equipe have something of a round-up on the AS Monaco transfer situation.
That inevitably involves the interest of several Premier League clubs in several players, and one of those is Benjamin Mendy. The French newspaper claim Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea are ‘vying’ for the left back, but they’ll have to have deep pockets to sign him.
L’Equipe say despite the ‘high level’ interest of clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea, referring to the class of those sides, there’s no big excitement at Monaco over a sale. Mendy isn’t one of the players earmarked for a sale this summer.
Therefore, any offer would have to be ‘exceptional’ to persuade Monaco to change their mind. Antonio Conte isn’t desperate for a left back, but the story is likely different for Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.
However, L’Equipe don’t share what they think is an exceptional amount.
As for Kylian Mbappe, also linked previously to the three Premier League clubs, Monaco are determined to keep him ‘at all costs’, and yesterday held a meeting with the youngster’s parents.
