If any clubs were interested in signing Houssem Aouar from Lyon this summer, they’re either going to have to wait a while longer, or spend a very large amount of money to do so.
The reason for this is that the 19-year-old midfielder is expected to extend his stay with the Ligue 1 club until 2023.
Linked with Liverpool in the past, the youngster has enjoyed a very impressive breakthrough season under Bruno Génésio in a midfield three alongside Tanguy Ndombele and Lucas Tousart.
RMC Sport in France cover the story in their live blog, and explain both parties are getting closer and closer to an agreement after Jean-Michel Aulas clarified Lyon’s plans going forward, in which Aouar will play a big role.
There was optimism within the Ligue 1 side that a deal could be done before the starlet leaves for his holidays/
However, it wouldn’t be an Aouar update without a mention of Liverpool, who are said to have a ‘strong interest’ in the midfielder, with Jürgen Klopp’s side keeping a ‘regular contract’ (we’re guessing they mean ‘contact’?) with Lyon about the France U21 international.
Maybe the Reds plan on teaming him up with Fékir at Anfield for the 2018-19 season? *wink wink*
