Friday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo had yet another article on the future of Yerry Mina, and they were very clear with their message.
The Catalan newspaper explained they’d been able to back up interest from Everton, with Barca sources confirming it, but the same couldn’t be said for Liverpool. That hadn’t managed to stand up those claims.
Sport are another Catalan newspaper, perhaps the more wild of the pair, and they ignore all of that on Saturday. It’s claimed Liverpool were in the picture before Everton, only later joined by their city rival.
On top of that, Manchester United are dragged in.
It seems clear the Catalan media are riding the wave of Mina’s World Cup as long as they can. Before the tournament the Colombian defender was repeatedly presented as something of a Barca disaster, a signing which was a mistake.
Mina’s World Cup performances show there’s clearly talent there, and he’s turned himself into a national hero.
Sport are now talking everything up, and Everton and Liverpool being brought in creates a Merseyside battle and ups the perceived value of the player, the clubs are being played against each other.
Both clubs have apparently made approaches, with Everton contacting the player’s uncle.
