It would appear someone is pushing the idea of Borussia Dortmund interest in Emre Can, because Sunday saw a series of claims the Liverpool midfielder could be off to BVB.
With the ‘leaks’ pushed to both the English and German media, there certainly looks to be some sort of effort here.
German newspaper Bild cover the claim both online and in their Monday newspaper, and it’s presented as a big deal. Credited to no less than 3 journalists, Bild dub it a potential ‘mega-transfer’.
Can is said be ‘toying with an idea to return to the Bundesliga’ and recent renewal talks with Liverpool have come to nothing. That’s a problem for the Premier League club, given his contract ends in the summer.
Bild quote the Liverpool player as saying: “My whole concentration is dedicated to Liverpool’s goals this season. The rest is taken care of by my adviser Reza Fazeli.”
It’s pointed out that Fazeli also represents BVB players Mo Dahoud and Nuri Sahin, and played a part in recruiting the club’s current manager Peter Bosz.
Right now there doesn’t seem an awful lot in this, Bild say BVB are thinking about it, but the hype around the actual bones of the story is obviously far greater.
Can swapping Liverpool for BVB could be considered a step sideways, and he’s not going to find a huge financial package there. Juventus interest is once again mentioned, and perhaps BVB could be being used to pressure the Turin club and/or Liverpool into offeirng better terms.
