Liverpool could be finding closed doors in case they take long too long to make a big effort enticing Inter Milan defender Zinho Vanheusden.
Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport has a story today mentioning the contract renewals planned by the Italian club, and the 18-year-old is on top of the list.
It’s claimed that many sides are interested, with Liverpool being one who already made contact. The Anfield club have ‘knocked on the door’ to sign the youngster.
That’s where the hurry comes from, especially because the player’s current deal expires in 2019 and Inter could find themselves under pressure in the next summer window.
The newspaper reports a new contract would run until 2022, and the club expect it to be signed in the next few months.
Besides Liverpool, Southampton have also been linked to the youngster. But earlier this month, Vanheusden spoke to the Belgian press about the interest from other clubs, and didn’t really want to feed the speculation.
In an interview with Het Belang van Limburg, he said: “I know very well that you can be God one day and could be finished the next day. There were indeed teams who wanted to loan me, but I didn’t think it was the right time.”
Liverpool perhaps need to persuade Vanheusden’s camp that signing a new contract isn’t a great idea, and then make a move in January.
