Liverpool are one of a number of clubs interested in Sporting’s Nuno Mendes, reports Sunday’s edition of Record.

The 19-year-old is considered one of the biggest left-back talents on the planet. Despite his young age he made 35 appearances for the Lisbon last season, and that wasn’t even his first campaign… with nine matches the previous season.

Sporting had been looking for the youngster’s full €70m release clause, an asking price which soon slipped to €60m and has now become ‘€50m+’.

It’s not that interest in Nuno Mendes is falling, it’s just that top clubs seem to be well stocked with left-backs right now. Liverpool ‘keep watch’, according to the report, along with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan.

Both Manchester clubs have been more strongly linked.

In Liverpool’s case, they have Andy Robertson so there’s clearly no need to spend €50m on another left-back, regardless of how talented he is.

Nuno Mendes’ agent, Miguel Pinho, is set to have a meeting with Sporting to discuss where things go from here, and that could see the youngster stay where he is for another season.
