Ruben Vinagre’s situation remains unresolved, with the Wolves player attracting serious interest from both Benfica and Sporting.

The potential Lisbon battle has another update on Sunday, with Record reporting Sporting are ‘ready to fuel’ their attempt to sign the left back.

Having spent last season on loan at Famalicao from Wolves, the 22-year-old managed to impress in Liga NOS, hence the interest in him. Sporting’s desire was thought to be dependent on the Lisbon club selling their latest super-talent, Nuno Mendes, however now it’s stated the 19-year-old’s future won’t have an impact on the chase for Vinagre.

Sporting want him anyway and feel they have good agent connections to get a deal done. Jorge Pires is Vinagre’s direct agent and represents multiple Sporting players already, on top of that he works closely with Jorge Mendes.

Record say there are two options ‘on the table’ for the deal, either a full transfer or a loan with purchase option.

Despite all of that it seems curious why Sporting would need Vinagre next season if they’re keeping Nuno Mendes. The prodigy would always be given more minutes as he’s seen as the next big sale.

Therefore, Wolves agreeing to a loan with a purchase option doesn’t seem the wisest of moves, either for them or the player. If he’s going to face a fight for minutes then Vinagre may as well do that at his parent club, who still rate him highly.
