Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has held informal discussions with Hertha Berlin’s goalkeeping coach about a potential move to the club this summer.
That’s according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Marc Behrenbeck, who says the Bundesliga side are very much interested in Karius’ signature.
The 26-year-old recently returned to Anfield after cutting short a two-year spell at Turkish side Besiktas, who he originally joined on loan in 2018.
At the moment his future remains unclear, with it clear there is no place for him at Liverpool given Alisson’s undisputed spot as number one.
It has widely been rumoured that a return to Germany, where Karius began his career and played for the likes of Stuttgart and Mainz could be on the cards, with several Bundesliga sides thought to be eyeing up a move.
Reports from Turkey recently claimed that he already had an agreement in place with Hertha Berlin and, while Behrenbeck doesn’t go that far, he does say conversations have been held between the player and the club.
“There is definitely interest from Hertha BSC,” he told Sky Sports Germany.
“There was also an exchange with Zsolt Petry, the goalkeeper coach at the capital club. However, it was very easy and loose at first. There are no concrete negotiations yet.
“Of course, it is also an option to stay in Liverpool. It is unlikely that he will be number one there.
“Alisson is the top star in goal. But especially in England – because of the many games – you get some games there, and he also has a good contract – at an estimated 3.5 million euros a year.
“But he wants more of a regular place, somewhere in Europe and very much in Germany. Hertha will definitely sign a goalkeeper this summer – and Karius is one of the candidates.”
