Liverpool are one of the clubs ‘interested’ in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria.
That’s what is reported in this week’s edition of SportBild when they analyse the situation of four players of the German club, whose contracts expire in 2022. The 24-year-old is included in the list.
Zakaria suffered a serious knee injury last March and returned to action in November.
According to the report, the defensive midfielder is yet to regain his best form after recovering from the knee injury. However, ‘his class is undisputed’.
Therefore, the Bundesliga side have been trying to extend the Austria international’s contract, but he has so far ‘refused’ to sign an extension.
This would force Borussia Mönchengladbach and their sporting director, Max Eberl, to offload the player and ‘signs are now pointing to separation’ in the summer. They already have a replacement lined up, having signed Kouadio Koné from Toulouse last month.
SportBild explain the Reds are ‘interested’ in Zakaria, while Atlético Madrid remain ‘hot’ for the Switzerland international. Manchester City are also in the picture, with they and Liverpool described as being especially keen.
‘A transfer is on the way this summer’ for the player, and the ‘probability that he will stay: 10 percent’.
This means Borussia Mönchengladbach are ready to open the door for Zakaria’s exit, if there’s no changes in his contract situation.
