Liverpool are not longer interested in a deal for Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven, with Jörg Schmadtke and Jurgen Klopp ruling out a move.
That’s according to Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung, who say the Reds interest in the youngster has ‘cooled noticeably’.
The newspaper reports that Van de Ven ‘will not move to Anfield’ this summer, despite numerous reports crediting Liverpool with an interest in recent weeks.
They explain that while those in charge at the club appreciate all the qualities of the defender, and that interest had been strengthened by the arrival of Schmadtke, who has worked with the defender previously, they’ve now decided to look elsewhere.
The Liverpool director of football had held a ‘consultation’ with Klopp about the potential transfer and the two ‘came to the conclusion’ that a move to Liverpool now would be too early in Van de Ven’s career.
They believe that the Dutchman still lacks the ‘physical robustness’ to assert himself in the Premier League and so are focusing their efforts elsewhere.
We’re sure that’ll come as a blow to Van de Ven, who has more than once made it clear he would be open to the move to Anfield if it was offered to him, which WAZ insist absolutely won’t be happening.
