Now that Liverpool have signed Ibrahima Konaté from RB Leipzig, any talk of them spending big on a defender needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.
The latest name to be added to the Reds’ alleged wishlist is Cristian Romero, who has been a target for Manchester United of late.
The centre-back, who was loaned at Atalanta for the season by Juventus, is set to join the Bergamo club permanently, and clubs are interested.
L’Eco Di Bergamo look at the situation on Thursday, and claim that while there was talk on Wednesday of Liverpool being ready to offer €50m for the player, that ‘doesn’t seem like a concrete hypothesis’.
That’s because of the Konaté deal, and it ‘seems difficult’ for them to spend more money on the centre-back position considering they will have Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez back next season, on top of their new acquisition.
Just something to think about if you see talk of Liverpool wanting Romero, as those close to the club in Italy aren’t convinced of the interest either.
