Inter Milan are engaged in a ‘tug-of-war’ with Barcelona to try and sign Georginio Wijnaldum from Liverpool.
The Dutchman’s contract at Anfield is set to expire next summer, and he is yet to sign an extension to that deal.
That has obviously sparked rumours that he will be leaving in January, when Liverpool would be keen to secure a deal to ensure they do not lose the midfielder on a free transfer.
Barcelona are thought to be particularly keen having tried to reunite Wijnaldum with Ronald Koeman, who he shone for during his time in charge of the Netherlands.
That was a deal they failed to get over the line in the summer despite intense speculation, but it’s widely felt the Spanish giants will return to try and secure a bargain deal in January.
It seems they will now face competition for the Liverpool man, though, as Inter Milan are eyeing up a deal as well.
“That would be the goal: to put up a little cash with which to attack the targets that Conte likes,” journalist Enzo Bucchioni told Tuttomercatoweb.
“In particular, there is a tug-of-war with Barcelona for the Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum, 30 years old and expiring with Liverpool.
“Giuseppe Marotta has in mind to repeat an operation similar to the one carried out last January with Eriksen; there is talk of fifteen million for the English.
“But the midfielder is very much liked by the former Dutch coach who would like him in Spain and the player is thinking about it.”
