After Loris Karius’ mistakes in the Champions League final, it was quite predictable that the rumours about Liverpool’s chase for a new goalkeeper wouldn’t take long to show up.
So in the past couple of days, several outlets came up with new targets for the Reds. Some reliable sources like the Guardian claim that the club are going for Roma star Alisson, who’s already been linked to them this season.
The Brazilian is said to be Jurgen Klopp’s number one target for the summer, even though Roma don’t seem so interested in selling him at the moment.
Alisson was still in Brazil during the Champions League final, as the national team was training at Granja Comary in preparation for the World Cup.
Before departing to Europe, the goalkeeper has spoken to the local press, and was asked about what happened in the Champions League final. He wasn’t really questioned about the transfer rumours, but showed a lot of support for the Liverpool goalkeeper.
“I got very sad”,” said Alisson (via Gazeta Esportiva). “We, goalkeepers, when we see a mistake of another goalkeeper, we end up feeling as if they were us. It’s very sad to see this, but he needs to put his head up. It is part of football and life must go on.
“He has to be proud to have played in a Champions League final. Of course it’s not what he expected, but it’s part of football. We are also subject to errors. We need to work hard not to let this happen to us.”
