Prior to Barcelona’s big matches in the Champions League, the Catalan media generally give their views on the club’s next opposition.
Ernesto Valverde’s side will host Liverpool in the first leg of the semi-final on Wednesday, and journalist Carles Rexach has shared his thoughts on the two-legged tie in today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo.
Rexach is of course best known for his time playing for Barcelona, a club he went on to manage, winning La Liga in both roles.
He starts by claiming the Blaugrana are the ‘best team of the decade’, which isn’t too controversial.
Rexach explains that any club can win the European competition with luck, but a group of good players not playing as a unit cannot go on to win the league, which is why he still rates winning the league over the Champions League.
Talking about Jurgen Klopp’s side, the journalist explains “Liverpool don’t scare me” as the Reds are a team that works well, but ‘always at one pace’.
He stresses the Merseyside club are capable of tearing any team apart, but they are unaware how to set the pace of the game.
“Lines should be together and horizontal passes should be avoided. In general, they are good and seem strong. But Barça is better and has Messi,” claims Rexach.
