Liverpool remain interested in Sevilla defender Diego Carlos, but the Spanish side will resist any offers for their man.
The Brazilian joined Sevilla from Nantes in the summer transfer window and has proven to be a big hit at the club.
As is usually the case, he has subsequently been linked with a move to a bigger club as a result, with Liverpool named as suitors back in February.
ABC Sevilla back up those claims today, saying Carlos’ name is ‘on the radar’ of teams such as Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
They hint that Sevilla have already had phone calls about their star players, with sporting director Monchi insisting that they have ‘said no’ to suitors.
There is no mention of how much Liverpool would need to spend to sign Carlos should they make their move, although it is made clear that his market value has ‘tripled’ in his time in Spain.
Given Sevilla paid €15m for him, that would suggest they are looking for close to €50m is they are to sell this summer.
That would surely be too much for Liverpool, who already have Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren to choose from at centre back.
The latter is expected to leave in the summer which would leave a gap, but it’s unlikely Liverpool would pay such a fee for a fourth or third choice centre back, and would likely look at the lower end of the market for Lovren’s replacement.
