João Carlos Teixeira’s arrival at FC Porto is still a big deal for the Portuguese press. After highlighting the midfielder’s first performances in friendly matches, O Jogo, for their Monday edition, have now interviewed Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori to talk about his former teammate.

“After seeing how he worked and how he grew up, I have no doubt that he can add a lot to FC Porto. He’s a top player and has the potential to reach another level,” Ilori told O Jogo.

“He arrived at Liverpool too young, without any hype, and went to the youth levels. In the English league, they sign players who cost 20 or 30 million euros, with much status, and it also has weight. In Portugal, they will get to know the real João.”

On Texeira’s relationship with the Liverpool manager, Ilori said: “Klopp is a very communicative coach and talked a lot with João to explain some things he intended.”

Teixeira is doing the pre-season with Porto, and is said to have “shown quality” in his first minutes for the club. Ilori is currently with the U23 Portuguese team, as they prepare for the Olympics, which will take place next month in Brazil.
