Liverpool are currently ‘studying the possibility’ of signing 20 year old central defender Francisco Ferreira in the January transfer window.
Playing for Benfica’s B team, and better known as Ferro, O Jogo say Liverpool have been ken on the youngster for a while. The Portuguese newspaper insist Liverpool have been following Ferro for over a year, and Jurgen Klopp has directly been impressed.
The Anfield idea is that Ferro could grow with the club and help make sure the central defensive options are stronger in the future. Liverpool made a ‘first attack’ during the summer, report O Jogo, but Benfica president Luís Filipe Vieira knocked them back.
Benfica believe there’s no point selling the young defender now because he’d be worth so much more once he breaks through the first team.
Ferro has responded well to every challenge laid down to him, and is progressing as well as Benfica have hoped.
The Portuguese club will likely look to raise some money during the January window, with the feelers already being put out, but it remains to be seen whether selling young talents, before they reach peak value, is part of that plan.
