During the summer Neymar saga, at a point when his move from Barcelona to PSG didn’t seem nailed on, the Brazilian went out for an afternoon or evening with Gerard Pique.

The former Manchester United defender has big plans at Barcelona, often linked with becoming a future president of the club. With such a reputation, Pique’s words on Neymar were taking seriously, and when he published an image of the two together, with the words “Se queda” it sounded like the move could be off.

“Se queda” means “He stays”, something the wider football world quickly found out. And when Neymar eventually left, the words were used meme-style for the summer, somewhat mocking Pique.

When the Spanish government rubbished the independence efforts of some in Catalonia, Pique found himself caught between two causes, and became an enemy for many who support Spain’s national team. French newspaper L’Equipe published a cartoon of a policeman with his arm around Pique’s head… and of course the words “Se queda”.

Se queda.

What has any of this got to do with Manchester United transfer rumours? Well, Simone Zaza has used the “Se queda” comment when on a radio show with teammate Carlos Soler, in response to the Valencia youngster being asked about Manchester United interest.

Soler has been linked with a move to Old Trafford on and off for a while, and Super Deporte quote the player himself, when asked about Manchester United interest, as saying: “I have a contract until 2021. I’m focused on Valencia, I don’t know anything about those things, it would be foolish to think about those things right now, what I have to do is focus here that I have many years left and that’s what it’s about.”

So, se queda? Yes, probably, at least for now.
