Saturday’s edition of L’Equipe has an article on the future of Adrien Rabiot, as the French newspaper often seems to do.
With a contract expiring in June, the midfielder has been the subject of endless transfer rumours, and seemingly endless attempts from PSG to get him to sign a new one.
Other clubs are interested and L’Equipe say Barcelona have initiated contact, but then so ‘of course’ have a few other clubs including Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have been linked repeatedly with the player, who spent some time in Manchester City’s youth system, but on occasion there’s been suggestions he’s simply looking for a huge salary and is somewhat greedy.
Therefore, it’s interesting that L’Equipe today point out Rabiot’s current deal is worth €250k per month before tax and that’s been the case since 2014.
Even summer signing Thilo Kehrer earns more, and Marco Verratti, who signed a contract around the same time as Rabiot, has seen his deal extended and improved several times.
Perhaps there’s more to this than a greedy player, it seems his club took a renewal for granted and believed they could keep the Frenchman on relatively low wages right until the end.
That could end up being to the benefit of Liverpool or someone else.
