AC Milan’s Franck Kessié has become a regular topic of discussion in the Italian sports media due to his refusal so far to extend the contract, which currently expires in 2022.
This has led to reports linking European clubs and earlier claims have suggested Liverpool are in the picture for the 24-year-old.
On October 1st, Gazzetta dello Sport stated the Anfield side’s ‘candidacy’ to sign Kessié cannot be neglected.
According to Il Milanista, the Serie A side have the intention to improve his wages from €5m to €6.5m per season.
However, his entourage are demanding an annual salary of €7-8m, excluding bonuses. In addition to this, there is no agreement between Milan and Kessié’s agent on commission, to renew the contract.
The Ivory Coast international’s behaviour has left Milan supporters and their chiefs, Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara, ‘stunned’.
Il Milanista state ‘no one expected this kind of situation’, especially after Kessié stated in the summer he wants to stay at the San Siro ‘for life’.
While there is no resolution on the player’s extension so far, the website says ‘it’s no mystery’ that Kessié has ‘entered the thoughts’ of Liverpool and other clubs.
Milan chairman Paolo Scaroni has hinted his side are unwilling to meet the player’s demands.
Speaking to Radio 24, relayed by Calciomercato.it, Scaroni said: “These are choices made above all by Maldini and Gazidis. I am in favor of a relationship between the club and professionals but if they have requests that we cannot bear, we will make other decisions and wish them good luck.”
If there is no agreement between Milan and Kessié over a new deal, the latter could be heading towards the San Siro exit, and Liverpool could very well be his next destination if they come forward with an offer.
