Jurgen Klopp has spoken to German TV about Mario Gotze, and Bild have used the opportunity to once again state Liverpool made a transfer approach. Gotze ended up moving back from Bayern Munich to Borussia Dortmund in the last summer window, but he was repeatedly linked with a Klopp reunion before that.
Gotze played his best football under Klopp, so reuniting with the German manager at Liverpool was a conceivable idea. However, the lure of a return to Dortmund proved stronger, then Gotze soon faced problems.
Diagnosed with a thyroid issue, Gotze is recovering and will again try to get back to his peak fitness.
Liverpool manager Klopp is backing his former star, and World Cup winning hero, to come back and show he’s still the player he was. Bild quote the Anfield boss as saying: “The health problems of Mario Gotze are a very logical explanation for one or the other problem that has occurred in recent years.
“I am just glad that this has now been discovered. In the end, many people will hopefully have to pay their respects. That would be quite right for me because I am 100% convinced by the boy.”
Klopp, and Borussia Dortmund, will hope Gotze can return quickly and get back to his best.
