Liverpool have been repeatedly linked with Inaki Williams over the past year or so. Jurgen Klopp is said to be a fan of the Athletic Club Bilbao player, and the Spanish media have continually insisted Liverpool have a big desire to sign him.
The 22 year old has played mainly as an attacking midfielder on the right this season for Athletic, and has scored 7 goals, as well as providing 6 assists. Spanish newspaper Marca report that Liverpool are one of a number of clubs who ‘have already launched’ efforts to sign the player, so far with no luck.
Williams has a release clause of €50m and he wouldn’t be leaving Bilbao for a Euro less than that. It works out to be around £42.3m, but Liverpool wouldn’t have to worry about the complicated tax system any longer.
In October Spain’s General Directorate of Taxes passed a resolution which means players aren’t liable for tax if forced to pay their own release clause.
Whilst that would be a boost for Liverpool, €50m is still a big fee, and Klopp would first have to convince Williams, who has repeatedly stated how happy he is at the Basque club.
