Lyon defender Marcelo has confirmed that his agent held talks with Liverpool over a move to Anfield in January.
The Reds spent the dying days of the January transfer window on the hunt for a centre back, with an injury to Joel Matip forcing them to enter the market.
They eventually settled on deals for Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies, with the former joining on loan from Schalke and Davies arriving in a £1.6m deal from Preston North End.
Both of those deals were completed on deadline day of the window, and before that point, Liverpool had been linked with numerous centre-backs around Europe.
One of those was Lyon’s 33-year-old Marcelo, whose contract at the French club expires in the summer and so would have been available on the cheap.
Initially, it was reports in England that linked Liverpool to the Brazilian, but this was later backed up in France, with L’Equipe reporting that the move hadn’t happened as the player wasn’t convinced by the offer of a six-month contract.
He’s now confirmed the interest from the Premier League champions, revealing his agent talked to the club about a move.
“I hope we will find a solution soon!” Le10 Sport report him saying to Canal + regarding his contract situation.
“I feel good here; I feel that I can give more to Lyon. Over time, I hope that we will find a good solution.
“Liverpool? My agent spoke with them, but I feel good here. My dream is to win the championship with Lyon.”
